Radiohead’s sixth album “Hail to the Thief” came out in June 2003. Yorke has said that the albums lyrics were inspired by “the general sense of ignorance and intolerance and fear and just plain dumbness” that followed the election of George W. Bush and the whole war on terror thing . Hail to the Thief hit number one in the UK and three on the Billboard chart when it came out – and promptly got certified Platinum in the UK & Gold in the US. Singles “There There”, “Go to Sleep” and “2 + 2 = 5” got a whole lot of airplay on modern rock radio. In 2004 the Grammys nominated Radiohead again for Best Alternative Album & their producer Nigel Godrich & engineer Darrell Thorp snagged the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album. In May Radiohead launched their own little corner of the web – radiohead.tv where they streamed all sorts of stuff – short films , music vids & live webcasts from their studio. The footage from that was later released on the 2004 DVD “The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of All Time”. In 2004 they also released “Com Lag (2plus2isfive)” , a compilation of Hail to the Thief B-sides, remixes & live performances. They toured in 2003 & 2004 too – to Europe , the States , Australia and Japan – playing festivals like Field Day, Glastonbury & Coachella while they were at it.
