In early 2018, original member Brian Liesegang returned to Filter after 21 years and started working with Patrick on the band’s 8th studio album. The latter mentioned that “Brian and I are making the official follow-up to Short Bus (maybe), called Re-Bus.” Liesegang offered an official statement regarding the project:
