Serenades , Anathema’s debut LP, attracted a lot of mainstream attention, propelling their “Sweet Tears” music video onto the MTV playlist. Anathema’s first European tour was in 1994, and was closely followed by gigs at the Independent Rock Festival in Brazil.

In 1994, Daltrey turned 50 and celebrated with two concerts at New York’s Carnegie Hall . The shows included guest spots by Entwistle and Townshend. Although all three surviving original members of the Who attended, they appeared on stage together only during the finale, “Join Together”, with the other guests.
