2011 ended with an announcement by the band on 29 December of a new extended play titled The Chill Out Sessions , a collaborative effort with British DJ Draper.
An article in The Guardian on 24 December 2011, entitled “The Guide’s guide to the next 12 months”, claimed that the band were set to reunite in 2012 with a new album planned, but was later denied by official sources and confirmed to be a mistake by the article’s author.
On 17 December 2011, the group performed ‘A Night of National Treasures’ at O 2 Arena in London to celebrate the band’s 25 years to date, and enter into a period of hiatus where the eleventh studio album was written.

They played subsequent shows in London and South America in December and released Live at the London Troxy , a live album from their performance on 10 December 2011 at The Troxy in London.
Also in 2011, Depeche Mode contributed their cover of the U2 song ” So Cruel ” to the tribute album AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered , honouring the 20th anniversary of the album Achtung Baby . The compilation CD was released with the December 2011 issue of Q .
