Before leaving Atlantic, the Rolling Stones released Undercover in late 1983. It reached No. 3 in the UK and No. 4 in the US. Despite good reviews and the peak Top 10 position of the title track, the record sold below expectations and there was no tour to support it. Subsequently, the Stones’ new marketer/distributor CBS Records took over distributing their Atlantic catalogue. When Undercover was released, Bill German’s then five-year-old Beggars Banquet newsletter was declared to be the official Rolling Stones newsletter, and Undercover included instructions on how to subscribe.
