released debut EP Drill

So Radiohead recorded a debut EP called Drill, with Hufford and Edge at Courtyard Studios. But unfortunately, it didn’t exactly set the world on fire when it came out in May 1992. The EMI bigwigs were struggling to get Radiohead noticed in the UK – where the indie labels were really running the show – so they decided to have the band work with American producers and go on a big tour of the States. That way, when they came back, they could build a following in the UK. Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade were brought in to produce Radiohead’s debut album, Pablo Honey, which they knocked up in Oxford in 1992. Then came the single ” Creep ” in September 1992, which finally started to get the band some attention from the British music press – although not all of it was exactly flattering. The NME basically trashed them, calling them “a bunch of weaklings” and blacklisting “Creep” on BBC Radio 1 as “too depressing”.
