On 29 April 2021, former drummer John Hinch died at the age of 73, as confirmed by Halford on Instagram . When speaking about the upcoming album, Halford said that the band had “a bunch of great new ideas for tracks, lots of really strong demos”, describing it as being “a very potent record”. Ian Hill said that there was enough material for at least an album or two, expressing doubt that it would be released before 2023 due to the band’s tour schedule. Halford confirmed Tipton’s appearance on the album.
