Champion arranged their live debut a few days later – which was on January 16th, 1998, at the Laurel Tree in Camden. They were still deciding on a band name at the time and went by Starfish. After finally settling on the name Coldplay, they released their Safety EP in May – thanks to the financial backing of long-time friend Phil Harvey. 150 of the 500 copies were sold on the open market. Harvey actually sold the first one to his roommate for a mere £3, the rest got handed over to record labels.
