The band co-headlined (with Emerson, Lake & Palmer ) the California Jam festival at Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario , southern California, on 6 April 1974. Attracting over 300,000 fans, the festival also included 1970s rock giants Black Sabbath , Eagles , Seals & Crofts and Earth, Wind & Fire . Portions of the show were telecast on ABC Television in the US, exposing the band to a wider audience. During the show Blackmore doused his amplifiers with petrol and set them on fire, blowing a hole in the stage.
