After signing, the band began recording its first major label album

After signing on, the band headed into the studio to start working on their first big record , Nevermind . They were offered a bunch of different producers to work with but nobody they wanted was available -so they waited till Chris Vig was free. Instead of using Vig’s studio like they did back in 1990, they ended up setting up shop at the Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, LA. They spent two long months working their way through a bunch of different songs and some of them had been kicking around in the Nirvana repetoire for ages – like ” In Bloom ” and ” Breed ” – while others like ” On a Plain ” and “Stay Away” were still missing lyrics right up until the middle of the sessions. Then once they finally finished the recording sessions, Chris Vig and the band went to work mixing the album but -well- that didn’t go so great. They’d run so far behind schedule that the mixes they came up with just didn’t cut it so they brought in a Slayer mixer called Andy Wallace to give the album a last shot at being all polished and whatnot. Unluckily, when it all came out, some of the band members weren’t too stoked about how it had turned out
