The following year – 1989 – sees the release of the Blew EP, with producer Steve Fisk at the controls.
Following on from that, in December 1988, the band begins work on its debut album, Bleach, with local producer Jack Endino.
In November 1988, Nirvana releases its first single, a cover of Shocking Blue’s “Love Buzz”, on Seattle indie label Sub Pop.
Later on in May 1988, Jason Everman plays his first show with Nirvana.
It’s March 19, 1988 – and Nirvana plays live for the very first time, under that name, at The Community World Theater, in Tacoma, Washington. The bill’s a bit eclectic, with Lush & Vampire Lezbos opening up.
They’d lost contact with Burckhard and just ended up jamming with Dale Crover from the Melvins , the same dudes they made their first demos with back in January 1988 when they first started to get everything together.
By early 1988, Crover himself is off to San Francisco, & recommends Dave Foster as his replacement behind the kit. Foster in turn gets the nod.
Come early 1987, though, and the setup got a lot more solid. Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic were on the hunt for a drummer and finally found one in Aaron Burckard.
Another project they were trying to get off the ground in late 1986 – this time featuring originals – also fell apart after a month, thanks in large part to the fact that Bob McFadden didn’t work out at the drums.
