Just before the band were due to go on stage at the 2004 Download Festival Ulrich had a panic attack and had to be rushed to hospital – Hetfield ended up looking for someone to replace Ulrich on the fly , with Dave Lombardo from Slayer and Joey Jordison from Slipknot stepping up to help out. Lombardo played Battery and The Four Horsemen, Ulrich’s drum tech Flemming Larsen played Fade to Black and Jordison finished the set.
