Creative and personal tensions between Mould and Hart intensified. With Mould already doing most of the band’s managerial duties, bringing in David Savoy to help with that end, Savoy’s suicide on the eve of the band’s 1987 tour in support of the double album Warehouse: Songs and Stories threw the band into a tailspin. In September 2006, Hart told Britain’s Q magazine, “I take full responsibility for [Savoy’s] suicide. It was a direct result of the pressure of working for Bob and me, because he was being forced into a two-faced situation.” Mould called Savoy’s suicide “the beginning of the end.”
