In September 2024, after years of touring in support of their previous album, Bon Iver returned with the single “Speyside”, and announced a three-song EP, called Sable , which was released on October 18. The EP marked a return to the project’s roots, relying heavily on Vernon’s voice and guitar, akin to their debut album, and consists of three songs recorded between 2020 and 2023. The EP was produced by Vernon and Jim-E Stack , with the three songs grouped together as a deliberate ” triptych ” which “runs the gamut from accepting anxiety to accepting guilt to accepting hope.” All three songs are accompanied by black and white music videos featuring Vernon, and directed by Erinn Springer .
