On 22 January 2020, Okereke announced on his personal social media accounts that Bloc Party had begun writing a new album. On 22 September 2021, Bloc Party posted to their official Twitter account a sneak peek of the tracklist/recording progress of their soon to be released sixth studio album. When interviewed by NME on what to expect of the new album, Okereke said that Bloc Party was “not the same band” and while aspects of the chemistry changed, they were excited about that.
