Recording sessions for Detour de Force began in early 2020 but were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic . The band completed the album later that year, while its planned Last Summer on Earth tour was postponed until 2022. Released in July 2021, Detour de Force received mixed reviews; Exclaim! viewed it as drawing upon the band’s earlier strengths without fully establishing a new direction.
